A steep walk to the hill top opens up panoraamic views of the rugged coastline, cliffs and wind carved moorlands of Cape Farewell.
The reason for our stopover at Collingwood was to hop on the Farewell Spit Eco Tour. Our guide Dave was a stand out, perfect for my introduction to this iconic landmark. He was an absolute mine of information, anecdotes, history and local gossip. He kept me totally engaged and entertained all day long.
Can you spot the Old Man Rock in my photograph?
Mind the cow patties on the climb to the top of the hill at Puponga Farm look-out over Cape Farewell. It is extremely steep and unfortunately my vertigo prevented me from getting to the summit.
"Cape Farewell is a spectacular introduction to the far north west of the South Island.”
