Shades of Turquoise and azure blue will lure you to some of the worlds clearest waters with

a spectacular array of aquatic flora that will wave to you from within the chrystal clear waters.

Pupu Springs, bubbling up from the Southern Hemispheres largest cold water spring that contain some of the clearest water ever measured.

In 1993, The National Institute for Water and Atmosphere (NIWA) carried out optical measurements under water and found that the visibility of Te Waikoropupu Springs was 63 metres.

Apparently this is very close to optically pure water, with clearer water found only beneath Antarctica’s near-frozen Weddell Sea.

Te Waikoropupū Springs Scenic Reserve is located in the Tasman District at the top of the South Island. Following State Highway 60, west of Takaka township, heading towards Collingwood, turn left into Pupu Valley Road.

A sacred place to Maori, the waters of the Springs, including Springs River and Fish Creek, are all closed to any form of contact including swimming, fishing, wading, boating or even drinking t. This helps to respect the cultural values of the Maori, and safeguard the quality of water.

A great walking track wide enough for prams or wheel chairs, through lovely bush and boardwalk takes about 30 minutes return.

Kia tüpato ki a Huriawa! Kia rangimärie ki a koutou katoa ki tënei Wahi Tapu.

Be mindful of Huriawa, be peaceful in this sacred place.
